Catalog of Abūl ‘Abbās al-Mursiy Manuscripts (VolumeI)

43.jpg (24342 bytes)Abūl ‘Abbās al-Mursiy Mosque is one of the most significant and famous mosques of Alexandria. Its library comprises a collection that amounts to almost three thousand manuscripts, of which the first volume includes 401ones covering Sufism, interpretation of Qur’an, Sīra and Hadith. Among the most important works described in the catalog is the rare copy of Dīwān al-Arīb - ‘The Witty’s Divan’ by Ibn Hišām al-Ansāriy summing up the Mughī al-Labīb- ‘The Sufficient Book for the Wise Man’ by al-Sāmūliy (Muhammad bin-‘Abdul-Maghīd al-Šāfi‘iy, d. 961 H.) dated back to 992 H. In addition to, the old manuscript of Talkhīs al-Bayān ‘ann Majāzāt al-Qur’ān- ‘Compendium of Rhetoric on the Metaphors of the Qur’an’ by al-Šarīf al-Radiy (Abūl-Hasan Muhammad bin-al-Husayn bin-Mūsā al-Tālibiy, d. 406 H.) transcribed in 509 H. An introduction opens the catalog highlighting its contents followed by a number of photos of some selections. A review of the manuscripts in an alphabetical order concludes it.
