The
first book on al-Mutawāliyāt (Progressions) comprises seven
studies on Sufism, underlay by the idea of Sufi language and the
reading process of the Sufi text. The seven chapters record the
development of the Sufi language starting with al-Hallāj and his
linguistic revolution (the first chapter) and reviewing the
progressive episodes that witnessed the establishment of the Sufi
terms and expressions. The last chapters shed light on the treatment
of Sufism in the modern writings of Zaki mubarak and Abdul Rahman
Badawi.
