third volume includes 307 manuscripts from the collection of
Alexandria Municipal pertaining to history and related subjects such
as biographies, Sīra, and geography. This collection reviewed in
the catalog contains a number of exceptionally significant, rare and
old manuscripts among these rarities are: al-Takmila
li-Wafayāt al-Naqala-
‘Supplement of Wafayāt
al-Naqala (the
Deceased Transmitters of Hadith)’ by al-Mundhiriy (d. 656 H.) with
an ijaza )literally meaning ‘to
make lawful,’ an ijaza was the authorization given by an author that a copy of his treatise is correct and can be transmitted to others(;
al-Ahkām al-Sultāniyya-
‘Sultanic Decrees’ by al-Māwardiy
transcribed in 798 H. al-I‘lām
bi-San al-Hijra ilā al-Šām- ‘Informing of the Justification
for Immigration to al-Šām’ (Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine)
by al-Biqā‘iy transcribed during the lifetime’s of the author
in 880 H.; al-Anīs
al-Mutrib- ‘The Ravishing Companion’ by Ibn Abī-Zar‘
transcribed during the lifetime’s of the author in 726 H.; al-Dur
al-Thamīn fī Sīrat Nūr-al-Dīn- ‘The Precious Gems in the Biography of Nūr-al-Dīn’
by Ibn Qādī Šabha transcribed during the lifetime’s
of the author in 874 H., among other written masterpieces.
