Divan
of ‘Afīf al-Dīn al-Tilmisāniy (d. 690 H.) is
considered the most expressive work of the author’s character and
the horizons of his Sufi concepts. Through his remarkable poetic
diction al-Tilmisāniy conveys what he perceives from the truths
of love and other features of the Sufi path. al-Tilmisāniy in his divan drives repeatedly on the idea
of the Unity of Being in its Sufi meaning (i.e., the Unity of Being
annihilates all multiplicity, all separate beings, Allāh is the
only existing truth). His love poems come within the Sufi mystic
insights with typical Sufi symbolism as in the recurrent appearance of
the characters of the famous Arabian beloveds Laylā, Lubnā,
Salmā inter alios; a theophany of the beauty of the Divine
Spirit. The second part of the divan was to be published years ago,
however due to a disagreement with the publisher it was rendered an
awaiting project.
