The
book epitomizes the quintessence of two journeys; the first is the
spiritual ascension by which the Sufi departs the phenomenal world to
the ultimate truth; from the world of absorption in the ego into the
world of persistence in the Divine Spirit. Such a journey is
represented in the thought and heritage of ‘Abdul Kādir al-Jīlāniy
(d. 561 H.). The second is the author’s exploration of the different
regions of Egypt to witness the status of al-Qādiriyya order in
the Islamic world. His journey sheds light on the four remaining
branches of al-Qādiriyya, which flourished for many centuries in
Egypt.
