Correspondence
is a significant part of Arabic Islamic heritage. Some renowned scholars
have dedicated chaptersof their works to cover this field- such as
al-Qalqašandiy’s book Subh al-‘Ašā fī Sinā‘t
al-Inšā; “The Night-Blind’s Morning in the Composition
Craft”. Eventually, it evolved into an independent genre of writing, as
described by Hājī Khalīfa in Kashf al-Znūn;
“Revealing of Assumptions”: Correspondence is a branch of the art of
writing. It is a science that gives an account of the status of the
corresponders and correspondence, regarding the literary style and the
jargon of each group, and concerning the statements that should be
avoided. In the art of writing, many works have tackled it.
Nevertheless,
our main interest is the correspondence between outstanding ‘ulama’
and famous figures in Arabic heritage. Thus, we have included the
unabridged texts of the original correspondence manuscripts.
